Play Therapy with Children on the Spectrum

This training is designed for the aspiring play therapist in any setting who is interested in learning about play therapy interventions and techniques that are helpful to children with sensory processing issues. We will cover the brain, diagnostic information, creating a treatment team, involving families, sensory play techniques and interventions, as well as referring families for other helpful services.

Learning Objectives:

  1. Participants will learn what is required for a diagnosis of autistic spectrum disorder
  2. Participants will learn diagnoses that typically have sensory processing components.
  3. Participants will learn how play therapy can help those with sensory processing difficulties and other components of ASD
  4. Participants will develop an understanding of play therapy interventions that are helpful for those who experience sensory processing difficulties and other symptoms of ASD
  5. Participants will learn how to involve families in sensory play,
  6. Participants will learn about other services that may be helpful for children with sensory processing difficulties and ASD.

This training will take place via Zoom due to COVID-19. Spaces are limited!


Due to the nature of this training, you will need to provide your own materials. Suggested materials: paper, markers/crayons, slime (water, borax, white glue, food coloring, glitter, lotion, model magic clay (Crayola) packet)

Play Therapy with Children on the Spectrum

  • Participants will earn 7 CEU’s from Playful Healing & Counseling through the State of Indiana (LCSW, LSW. LMHC, LMHC-A, LMFT) and the Association of Play Therapy. The email and shipping address you use to register is where your certificate will be sent. The exact method for distributing certificates varies based on the training. You will be advised about this by the presenter for your course.
